(Revitalization of Farmers Group as Agricultural Extension Media in Globalization Era)

ABSTRACT

Since government decentralized in 1999, extension workers became local government official. In many districts, local government was not ready, so that agricultural extension and their institutions could not play their roles normally. Farmers groups could not be guidance by extension workers effectively. Another hand, globalization era would

increase competition of agricultural product sale, and farmers were not ready to do it. For answering about agricultural development in globalization era, farmers groups as agricultural extension media have to be improved, agricultural extension have to emphasize product quality and business activities, so that farmers groups can be success as learning forum, medium for cooperative actions, unit of production, and business unit.

PERTUMBUHAN DAN HASIL SELADA PADA BERBAGAI KERAPATAN JAGUNG DALAM POLA TUMPANG SARI

(Lettuce growth and yield on various maize density in multiple cropping system)

ABSTRACT
This study was aimed at investigating the effect of various maize density on the growth and yield of lettuce in a multiple cropping system. The study was carried out on February through to April 2004 at the Experimental Farm, Agricultural Faculty (university of Jambi, Mendalo Darat Campus, located at approximately 35 m above sea level and Ultisol soil group. The culture technique followed the routine organic farming system with no use of inorganic fertilizers nor .pesticides. Manure of chicken waste was used as a base fertilizer at the rate of 20 ton ha”. Lettuce cv. Grand Rapid were planted at 70 x 25 density in the between of the rows of maize cv. Arjuna that were planted at 70 x 80 cm, 70 x 60 cm, 70 x 40 cm and 70 x 20 cm density. One treatment with no maize was used as the control. The results indicated that maize planting at density of 70 x 60 cm produce the best growth and yield performance on lettuce as well as maize itself, Though the monoculture system (with no maize) or multiple cropping at 70 x 80 cm density produced higher lettuce fresh weight than those planted qt 70 x 60 density, the difference was not significant. Maize density of wider or narrower than 70 x 60 cm were liable to produce lower yield, in the form of stalk number

UPAYA MENGURANGI KEMISKINAN DENGAN PEMBINAAN LUMBUNG PANGAN DI DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA

(Efforts in Reducing Poverty Through Guidance of Local Food Storage in Yogyakarta Province)

ABSTRACT
The research aims to identify organization which conducted guidance of local food storage in Yogyakarta Province and to identify guidance focus of local food storage in the process of poverty alleviation in Yogyakarta area. Basically the used method in the study was descriptive analytical method. Descriptive study has some goals that include description on situation or events or describe relationship among phenomenon, hypothetical examination, prediction ranking and also describe the implication from a problem that will be solved. Qualitative method has been done through 3 stages namely data reduction, data presentation and creating of conclusion. In Yogyakarta, 89% of local food storages were included into simple local food storages. Characteristics of simple local food storage were lack of storage facilities, small scale enterprise and having social orientation. Generally, existence and experience in managing of local food storage in Yogyakarta has been done in average of 2, years. However guidance in optimizing the function of local food storage was relatively still low. Guidance process has been done by two institutions namely local government and local owned enterprise by subject matters focus on agriculture, business diversification of local food storage and organization. Subject matters of local food storage have been directed on business improvement of local food storage from social orientation into more economical orientation. Changes of business orientation became efforts in reducing of poverty through creation of local food storage.

PEMBERITAAN PERTANIAN OLEH SURAT KABAR DAERAH STUDI KASUS PADA RUBRIK KANDA RAHARJA SKH. KEDAULATAN RAKYAT

(Reporting of Agricultural News by Local Newspaper: – Case Study on Rubric of Kandha Raharja – SKH. Kedaulatan Rakyat -)

ABSTRACT
The Study aims to know and to analyze the comparison between agricultural news and non-agricultural news in term of frequency, space, length, position, topic and coverage area on special rubric of agricultural issues of Kedaulatan Rakyat daily newspaper Another purpose of the study was to know about editorial policy of the newspaper in reporting agricultural news and information. The research method used in the study was “descriptive method” by applying of “content analysis” technique. Data of 16 publications during May-December 2A04 were used in the study. Main findings of the study were: (1) total number of space and length of agricultural news were larger as compared to non agricultural news, (2) position of agricultural news in the top of the paper were larger as compared to non-agricultural news, (3) agricultural news from non-governmental sources were larger as compared to governmental sources, (4) news topics of agricultural production and forestry and miscellaneous were dominant, (5) coverage area of local agricultural news were larger as compared to non-local news, (6) the editorial policy had some flexibilities in arranging and selecting of coverage area, they were not only on local issues, but also extended into large area or non-local news.

KEMAMPUAN PERTUMBUHAN BERAT BADAN TERNAK DOMBA DENGAN PEMBERIAN PAKAN JERAMI PADI DENGAN PERLAKUAN NATRIUM HIDROKSIDA (NaOH) SEBAGAI PENGGANTI HIJAUAN

(Weight Growth Ability of Sheep Livestock by Feeds Rice Straw That was treated by Hydroxide Alkali (NaOH) in The Place of Grass)

ABSTRACT
This research was aim to discover weight growth ability of fat tailet sheep livestock which feeds ice straw that wqs treated by hydroxide alkali (NaOH). This research was using I0 sheep under I year aged which was divided into two groups, per group consist of 5 sheep with average weight was 14 kg for first group and 13.97 kg for second group. Feed treatment for first group was chopped dry rice straw plus NaOH with ratio 2 grams NaOH for 100 grams dry rice straw. Previously, NaOH was dissolved into 600 ml of water then sprayed to the straw till homogenous. Second group was for control, fed with verdant big grass (Pennisentum purpureum). Both of those groups fed with supplement -food called bekatul (rice bran). It quantity was 400 grams per sheep per day. Research was done during 90 days. Data which was taken covering weight increasing and amount of food consumption per sheep per day. The research result showed average of weight increasing for first group was 32.8 grams and the second group was 45.5 grams per sheep per day. Amount of dry water feed consumption per sheep per day (rice bran * grasses) for first group was 0.428 kg and for second group was 0.693 grams. Amount of digestible protein consumption and digestible energy per sheep per day for each group was 24.31 grams and 1.299 mcal for first group then 35.32 grams and 2.014 mcal for second group. Therefore weight increasing, amount of consumption (dry matter digestible protein, digestible energy) of second group was better than first group (P < 0,05).

PERSEPSI PETANI TERHADAP PENGEMBANGAN KEDELAI HITAM DI PLAYEN GUNUNGKIDUL

(Farmers perception of the Black Soybean Development in Playen Gunungkidul)

ABSTRACT
This research was aim for describing the farmer perception about black soybean and its realization, and also get the pictures about the factors that influence it by factual. This research used qualitative-naturalistic approach, collecting data have the character of descriptive in the form of words. This research was conducted in Playen Gunungkidul in November 2004.The result of research showed that there was no different between yellow soybean and black soybean, in the case of its technical cultivation. Farmers have experiences of soybean planting, so that there was no constraint about black soybean development. The black soybean development constraint emerged from farmer perception which saw that black soybean is difficult to market especially in large quantity, there was no certain market and its price lower than yellow soybean, so that farmer didn’t make profit. Factors which were the background of farmer perceptions and influenced the accuracy of perception were internal condition of farmer like farm experience, education / training experience, age, and the condition of farmer external like certainty of price and market. The implication of this research is to develop black soybean need the existence of certainty of market at the equal price with yellow soybean. To change the farmer perception about black soybean, there should be extension action especially about making added value to the farmer. There also should be cooperation, among local government of Gunungkidul, STPP BPTP and other related institution in order to empower the farmer.

PERANAN PEMUKA PENDAPAT DALAM ADOPSI INOVASI TEKNOLOGI BARU PADA PETANI DI KABUPATEN KULON PROGO

(The Role of Opinion Leader on Farmer Adoption Innovation of Technology in Kulon Progo Regency)

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research is to know and understand the role of opinion leader to ward farmers in adopting and innovating technology Kulon Progo district and also to know the characteristic of opinion leader as well as farmers and it’s influenced factor For Examining characteristic of opinion leader and farmer as well in adopting and innovating technology application was used t test. With the result that in average the opinion leaders were older, have higher education, level and they have larger of land holding than ordinary farmers Tb Examining the influenced factors to ward adoption innovation of urea tablet was used regression Correlation analysis and the result of it has shown that there were two factors which influenced were the land size and the role of neighbor .The role of opinion leader didn’t influence to ward adoption innovation of technology, application due to information flow of agriculture innovation itself was indirectly dispersed from the opinion leader to the farmer, but information flow was running a way through many steps, one of them was through the neighbor.

STABILITAS HASIL CULTIVAR GANDUM

(Yield Stability from five cultivars of wheat)

ABSTRACT
Indonesia has been trying to develop tropical wheat in regard to decrease import of wheat. Therefore, some tropical wheat varieties have been introduced into Indonesia. This research aims to evaluate the yield stability of some varieties which introduced into Indonesia. Five cultivar of wheat, namely DWR 162, DWR 195, HD 2189, HUW 234, and Nias as check variety, where grown at three different environments. Field experiment were arranged according to Randomizes Completely Block Design procedure with three replications. The result shoved that based on the stability parameter of Eberhart and Russel, HUW 234 is stable cultivar in yield und yield components, although its yield is quite small. The other two cultivars, namely DWR 195 and Nias tend to adapt in favorable environment. Meanwhile, HD 2lB9 and DIYR 162 are suitable varieties for less favorable environment.
